I don't know if these articles are necessarily arguing that we should never praise our kids. If it is, then I don't agree because positivity is very important especially early on in life. However, I do agree with point number 1 and point number 2 and point number 4. Five Reasons to Stop Saying Good Job It is definitely possible for kids to get "addicted" to praise, living their lives for nothing but the approval of their elders, as I'm sure we've all seen in our school careers. When people are overly praised, the will tend to lean toward acting toward that same behavior. However, that only lets them act the way that other people set forth for them, which inhibits creativity. Neil Gaiman's Advice on the Creative Life Pushing oneself out of their comfort zone is really the only way to grow as a person. While not necessarily "art" as most would think about it, this article made me think about weight lifting. The only way to get stronger week by week is to lift more weight or do more repetitions than you did last time. If you do the exact same thing week by week you're not going to get any stronger. Often, raising the weight may mean that you can't do as many reps as you did last week, but, eventually, you will be able to. In fact, failure is better because you know you pushed yourself as far as you could, which will lead to better results in the long run.
